Day 59

Have you ever felt like you were playing Russian roulette with the GPS? I am learning to defy mine when it seems appropriate. No matter how carefully it seems to be rerouting Mini Pearl and me, the directions become suspect when I’m told to turn down a narrow neighborhood street on my way to the highway.

(Yes. I’ve named my rig Mini Pearl and am in search of a large straw hat to adorn her, with a price tag still attached. Don’t judge me.)

I suspected I was in trouble when I came upon a fork in a suspect rural road and the sign said, “Road Ends in Water” to the right. So naturally, since MP (Mini Pearl) is not an amphibious rig, I went left. Only moments later I came over the rise of a hill and was faced with a few feet of downhill and then the end of the road. No easy place to turn around. Sh*t.

I surprised myself. I managed on the 3rd or 4th try (a good record for me) to back into a narrow driveway going uphill and to the right, the harder side to see, and got myself out of my predicament. I am so proud. I don’t think I will ever be able to do it again but as they say, necessity is the mother of invention so who knows. I’m very glad I didn’t have to go to the owner of that driveway and ask for assistance backing up. I am not a helpless female. I CAN learn to do this myself. I can.
