Day 62

Life on the road is not the same as a long vacation. I knew this instinctively before I started, but now I understand it more viscerally.  I am often asked, “What will you do today?” Some days I can answer that I’m doing something “fun” but many days are like life at home. Chores, book reading, binge-watching a good TV series, and just hanging out. This doesn’t mean the learning stops. Today, the learning might be categorized as a necessity is the mother of invention.

One important habit I am developing is an effort to manage my resources carefully. I am in this campground for 6 days without a sewer connection. My challenge this week is to use my gray and black water tanks judiciously, so I don’t have to “dump” before my time is up here. To that end, I am using the campground facilities as much as possible. Why am I telling you all of this?

Imagine being up early and needing a shower. I could do this in the trailer but would quickly fill the gray tank. Packing a shower bag and using the shower house is not a big deal which provides plenty of hot water and no worries about tanks. However, it’s not without its challenges. It is a big deal when I forget my towel.

I decided that using my dirty tee shirt as a towel is better than going home wet or not showering at all. Sounds like my standards have slipped a little but I am none the worse for wear, I assure you. As a hiker, I learned to make many compromises like this. I won’t regale you with the particulars though. Your welcome.

Interesting. I just called MP “home”. It really does feel this way now. I think that’s good.
