Day 44

I was lucky enough to catch a camping site at Ft. Pickens, in Pensacola FL this year. Last year, I fell in love with this place. If you look at the map, you will notice that Ft. Pickens is at the end of a LOOOOONG causeway (about 8 miles).  If you look at the pictures you can see what the causeway looks like.  With a speed limit of 25 mph, the causeway is also a place of unbidden meditation.  Every one of my trips on this road feel memorable to me now.

But it’s not all Yanni music and ocean breezes.  You will see, in one picture, that we learned about sand spurs.  So this year we came prepared; Cooper brought his snow boots. Speaking of snow boots, read on.

When we were there last year, we learned something else that surprised.  Having just missed a hurricane, the ocean was very churned up, and the wind was blowing fiercely. This caused significant “snow” drifts that needed to be plowed away. This seemed totally incongruent to me.  This is a place of warmth and relaxation.  How could there be snow drifts? Well, as you will surely realize, I’m being a bit hyperbolic, but it still surprises me when I seen the evidence of the plows.

Have you ever experienced this?
