Day 222—Epilogue

I have been home for a couple of weeks now.  Surprisingly, even though I’ve lived in this condo for 20 years, it’s taken a while to reacclimate.  It feels strange not being in the trailer and on the go.

As I think back on the trip, I have to say I’m amazed.  I did it.  There was doubt in the beginning, as I struggled to learn the steps of setting up and tearing down, and when to ignore my GPS.  But learn I did.

I knew this intuitively, but it took experiencing it before I really knew that being on the road for 7 months is not a vacation in the traditional sense.  I think a better term would be “living on the road”.   Nomading is pretty close too, but not quite because I didn’t move around in a specific pattern of places.  Maybe I have to come up with a new word.  We’ll see.

Taking a ride with Orville at Kitty Hawk.

That said, there are a lot of us out there.  Mostly women traveling solo.  Many have sold their life’s accumulations and are out there permanently.  Others, like me, are just going out for extended trips.  This fact lets me know I’m not nuts.

So what’s next?  I have started circling places on the map thinking about that.  I will go west.  I want to see the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas.  I want to experience BLM (Bureau of Land Management) camping.  I want to see Slab City (maybe).  I will not be attending Burning Man (not my bag).  I will visit Quartzite AZ, a mecca for many solo travelers.

I will spend some significant time in South Carolina at some point too.  I continue to look for a piece of land to call home base in the south.  I have fallen in love with SC and the little town of Walterboro.

Stay tuned!
